Biology BS Program at Scranton

Scranton's biology undergraduate program provides an excellent foundation for a wide range of careers in science and healthcare. Through one-on-one interactions with our faculty, you will gain in-depth experience in the process of science, learn laboratory techniques, and share in the excitement of scientific discovery.

Why choose Scranton for your Biology BS program?

At Scranton, students are active participants in the learning process, working closely with their advisors to develop a program of courses and activities aligned to their academic and career goals.

  • Small, Focused Classes: Our lectures are capped at 35 students. Laboratory sections—even at the freshman level—are limited to 18 students for individualized instruction and personal attention.
  • Undergraduate Research: You don't have to wait for grad school to make scientific discoveries. Our faculty-student research program allows undergraduates to co-author papers and present at international conferences.
  • State-of-the-Art Facilities: Learn and collaborate in the Loyola Science Center, a stunning 200,000-square-foot facility featuring 34 glass-walled laboratories and cutting-edge equipment. You’ll find dedicated spaces for informal gatherings, student group work, and faculty-student research.
  • Faculty Mentorship: Our professors are dedicated teachers and renowned researchers, but most importantly, they are your professional advocates. They prioritize getting to know you personally, guiding your academic journey, and writing the personalized letters of recommendation for a competitive graduate school or that dream job.

“Because our classes are small, professors can give individual attention to students and challenge them at the appropriate level. The friendly relationships with professors and with students have allowed me to thrive.” Matthew Reynolds ’18, Biology and Biophysics Majors
