On choosing my major

"I chose BCMB because I felt (and still feel) that it's the perfect interdisciplinary program between Biology and Chemistry. I wanted to have the best of both worlds, and the BCMB program's curriculum allows me to experience what both disciplines have to offer without sacrificing prominent features of one curriculum. Also, the program's emphasis on scientific literacy and independent research has aligned very well with my interests as I've progressed as a student. As for my future career, I plan to to apply to medical school in a few years."

On getting involved at Scranton

"I am involved in a few extracurricular activities, including the University Strings Orchestra, which has been a very enjoyable experience thus far. I walked into the first rehearsal of my freshman year having never touched a cello before, and it's been an extremely rewarding challenge learning not only the basics, but, also more recently, how to navigate some of the tougher pieces we've played. Additionally, I volunteer as a part of the We Care program at the Arrupe House on Clay Ave — I help to prepare and package food to be delivered to those in need. I'm the incoming vice president of Scranton's chapter of Remote Area Medical (RAM), a national organization that hosts clinics at which RAM members volunteer their time to help patients who may be uninsured or who may not otherwise have access to medical, dental, and/or vision care."

"In addition, I'm an incoming co-vice president of the University's Health Professions Organization. Finally, I am involved with the Faculty Student Research Program and participate in Cell Biology research during the school year, and I hope to complete an Honors thesis in this discipline as a current member of both the Magis Honors Program in STEM and the University Honors Program."

On choosing Scranton

"I deliberated until (literally) the last possible day between coming to The University of Scranton and attending another institution, but I'm so glad I committed to come here. I ultimately chose Scranton because of the great relationships students can develop with professors, the small class sizes, and the vested interest that the members of the Scranton community have in the success of their students. It's been an amazing experience so far, and I have absolutely no regrets about the decision I made to become a Royal."

On my favorite Scranton memory

"My favorite Scranton memory was watching the 2024 solar eclipse. Even though the event itself wasn't much of a spectacle, it seemed like everyone left behind the stress of studying for the upcoming onslaught of exams and came outside to socialize and have a good time. It was a small moment, but it was a nice reset during a busy time of the year."

I ultimately chose Scranton because of the great relationships students can develop with professors, the small class sizes, and the vested interest that the members of the University community have in the success of their students.
